Jig for stamping seed phrase

This is the first CAD 3D design that I'm sharing on my blog. It's very useful as a tool if you need to secure a seed phrase in the safest way possible, which is stamped into stainless steel washers. You simply put the washers on a M8 bolt and secure with a nut. They are water, fire, UV resistant and you can toss it in a safe, bury it in a PVC pipe without worrying that it gets damaged.

This is also a test for my new file server that works as a personal iCloud for me and from which I can share files like the completely free Fusion archive of this jig so that you can print one yourself or even modify it.

You need to calibrate the filament for shrink and enter the correction factor into your filament settings so that you always get accurately sized prints. That said, using the original CAD files you can make adjustments there as well. The size of the washer and the size of the stamp shank is set as a parameter in the file. The photo gallery below shows how to use it. In this example I used it for word #24 which is HAMSTER (which isn't really in my seed phrase 😀) The positions marked with a # are for the number and as hamster has 7 letters you start the word at index position 7. For even numbers of letters you select the odd number at either side of the even number. You can see the stamps align with the index notches in the 2nd photo below.

For those not familiar with this: when you own crypto currency or a contract or nowadays even company tokens on the blockchain and don't want it to be stolen then you use a self-custody wallet. Such a wallet is initialized with a 24-word seed or recovery phrase. When you know that phrase, you own the assets. Later, you can buy another hardware wallet or signup for an online (hot) wallet, enter this phrase and gain access to your assets. Pretty important that you don't lose it. Online wallets get hacked so use a hardware wallet and assets are forever lost when you lose the phrase so secure it well.
