NaviLED 3-color/anchor light

We are replacing everything at our mastheads and every item is painful because nothing is as it should be. Take this expensive lamp… it’s beautiful but it expects you to splice the cable inside the mast?! Really? I don’t want the weight of the cable hanging off a splice!

So I designed this mounting base with integrated terminal strip and cable strain relief. It accepts the standard lamp and it can go up to the masthead assembled, ready for mounting and connecting the cable.

There’s actually five parts to it: the base, the lid, the gasket for the lid, another one for the lamp itself and finally the cable strain relief. The gaskets keep out as much water as possible, but the design is so that any water simply drains out without causing damage.

The black base and the lid are ASA and the red parts are TPU. Below some pictures made during assembly showing details.

Now that we have all the parts, we can decide on how we will set it up. We already have the 1-meter high vertical pole for the sensor with a mount for the masthead. We hope that we can use the old B&G cable in the mast.

We did this project to become familiarized with the Shaper Origin handheld CNC router and their plugin for Fusion CAD. modeling for CNC is very different from modeling for 3D printing so it took me some time to make that switch as well as learning to use the Shaper Origin
